FAMILY PRACTICE PHYSICIAN – BOARD CERTIFIED

1 QUALIFICATIONS.

1.1 Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency

1.2 Current board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or the

American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine (AOBFM)

2 TYPE OF WORK. The duties include but are not limited to the following:

2.1 Shall provide outpatient health care to qualifying beneficiaries as scheduled by the

Government.

2.2 Care shall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive health

maintenance and medical care to entire family regardless of sex, age, or type of

problem.

2.3 Will maintain a program of comprehensive health for the family unit, to include

preventive medicine, behavioral sciences, and community health.

2.4 May become the primary care manager for a panel of patients. As a PCM, will be

the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of

his/her assigned patients. Duties include:

2.4.1 Examination of patients, formulation differential diagnostic plans, defines and

orders required diagnostic testing.

2.4.2 Interpretation of examination findings and test results, and implementation of

treatment plans.

2.4.3 Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment

provided at the direction of other specialists.

2.4.4 Approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals.

2.4.5 Answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.

2.4.6 Providing primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.

2.5 All inpatients will be admitted as per the local MTF instructions.

2.6 Be capable of adequately diagnosing and treating a wide-range of pediatric and

adult acute and chronic diseases and injuries including but not limited to conditions

of the:

Skin Pulmonary System

Head Gastrointestinal System

Eyes Musculoskeletal System

Ears Genitourinary System

2.7 Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately perform medical procedures to

include, but not limited to, the following:

Basic Life Support

Secure and maintain an adequate airway to include endotracheal intubation

Cardioversion of life threatening arrhythmias

Simple minor surgical procedures: punch biopsies, excision of skin lesions

Simple abscess incision and drainage

Sling or swath injuries

Lumbar puncture

Suture simple laceration

Suture removal

Tube thoracostomy

Cryotherapy

Nebulizer treatment

Urine catheterization

Cultures (throat, wound)

Remove ocular, nasal and ear foreign bodies

Clearing of ears by flush technique

Reduce simple dislocations and fractures, when appropriate

Bandaging of sprains, minor burns, and minor lacerations

Perform venous punctures for lab studies and interpret results

Draw arterial blood gases for evaluation and interpret results

Administer intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous medications as

appropriate

Stabilize and evaluate cervical spine injuries as appropriate

Splint and stabilize traumatic injuries to extremities

2.8 Ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.

2.9 Prepare records and reports as required in support of services rendered in

accordance with established procedures.

2.10 Attend and participate in patient care reports, patient care conferences, team

conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional

activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to

his/her assigned cases and/or performance of services as determined by the

supervisor.

 

FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER

1 QUALIFICATIONS.

1.1 Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and

procedures.

1.2 Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the

desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate

administration of the pharmacological agent, including dosage calculations as

required. Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation

of patients condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and

follow up care.

1.3 Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word

processing, data entry and automated medical records.

1.4 Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as

IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers,

nebulizers, and other unit specific equipment.

2 TYPE OF WORK. The duties include but are not limited to the following:

2.1 Provide a full range of nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges

granted by the Commanding Officer (e.g., supervise and provide general screening

and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic

conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose,

treat, and counsel patients as indicated).

2.2 Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses, or minor trauma within

accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician.

2.3 Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.

2.4 Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health

resources as indicated.

2.5 Order diagnostic tests as applicable.

2.6 Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and

Therapeutics Committee.

2.7 Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals,

positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.

2.8 Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of

optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness

2.9 Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all

established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment

facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.

2.10 Assesses patients.

2.11 Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for

the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for

teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses

appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues

2.12 Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both

written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.

2.13 Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency

situations.

2.14 Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with

(IAW) unit guidelines.

2.15 Participates in the orientation of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.

2.16 Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed.

Provides relevant and timely information to these groups, and assists with decision making

and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives, and

medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.

2.17 Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety

IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.

 

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

1. QUALIFICATIONS.

1.1 Be a graduate Physician Assistant qualified by academic and practical education to

provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician.

1.2 Be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Training Program accredited by the

Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARCPA),

or its predecessors, and acceptable to the Surgeon General, USAF, is

mandatory.

1.3 Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Committee on Certification

Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.

1.4 Have at least 24 months of experience as a Physician Assistant within the last 36

months.

2. TYPE OF WORK. The duties include but are not limited to the following:

2.1 Provides primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a

physician.

2.2 Responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in

addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as

they occur. Shall have the capability to:

2.2.1 Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate

to the patient's condition.

2.2.2 Perform a general physical examination.

2.2.3 May become the primary care manager for a panel of patients. As a PCM, will be

2.2.6 Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and the scope of

practice of the facility.

2.2.7 Identify and report those situations and individual cases which have public health

significance and carry out effective control measures.

2.2.8 Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the

findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.

2.2.9 Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer

to physician care.

2.2.10 Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare

patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.

2.2.11 Perform the following blocks: Digital, Local Infiltration, and Intercoastal

2.2.12 Perform urological procedures.

2.2.13 Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF

procedures.
